Possible SC4 back at Evo?

MrWizard

Im here to figure out if there is enough community support to bring this game back to the Evo Championship Series is Las Vegas.

If you can please help out and post tournament numbers for events that were pretty big so that we can weigh our options at including this event in our lineup.

You can also post comments or suggestions about SC4 possibly being in the lineup.

Thanks.

Here are the tournaments I have run...

Kogarasumaru September Monthly - 47 Players
Kogarasumaru October Monthly - 42 Players
Kogarasumaru November Monthly - 37 Players
Video Game XPO - 44 Players
North East Championships 08 - 86 Players
Kogarasumaru January Monthly - 46 Players

In Toronto We have a Tournament approxiamtely every Month.

We've had about 10 Tournaments so far, ranging from 12-20 Players for any given tournament, but thats with a VARIETY OF 30+ different players that have participated, and also 5-10 or more that have or are willing to Travel.

also I believe Season Beating 3 In October in Ohio drew about 87 players, but with no shows about 75 that were there.

in other words, get er done

Our region has like no players and we manage to generate 15-20 in local tournies. The support for the game is there.

I really think SC4 is a great candidate for one of the games. Numbers already show the interest in the game. Now that the 'lolCalibur' and initial paranoia of SC4 being bad game or a repeat of console 3 are finally dying down, and people are realizing how good 4 turned out, you're seeing people take it more seriously now too.

Tekken is in limbo with 6 not being on console yet, much less BR. VF isn't in its current iteration either, and unfortunately, won't pull big enough numbers. I know the Tekken community is trying to rally up interest in a TTT tournament, which I think is dope, but don't see fit for a main game over SC this year for the grand finals/content on EVO DVD. That really only leaves SC for the 3D category.

Also, as a heads up, there are nationals for SC4 in July Mr. Wizzard. Not sure if that date/tourney will affect turnout for EVO or not. I'm guessing not for the most part. Most players want to rep big at EVO, and I'm sure both SC vets and new players would want to rep SC there this year.

Outside of the nationals date, the only other issues I would see in choosing SC4 is console choice, and ruleset. Console choice will likely be whatever console SF4 is decided to play on. Ruleset, may be tougher, but nothing like what Brawl has gone through. Currently the community is fine with roundcount/which stages are allowed and all that jazz. The only split is on the allowance of some characters. I'm sure it can/will be worked out before Summer though.

Calibur 4 for sure will have a huge turnout at this year's Evo if allowed, no doubt.

Yeah, I don't see any other game with as many scenes that consistently run local tournies. I think that says something about how much people enjoy and are willing to improve in this game.

The scene seems to be very evenly spread out across the US, and there are also strong players in many other countries who could possibly show up. A French player won SC2 at Evo2k3, so I wouldn't be surprised to see some international comp if this game is added.

Also, the ruleset won't be much of an issue anymore. I understand that Evo doesn't like to ban anything except when absolutely necessary, and guess what? A good portion of the SC community has recently decided to unban just about everything. The only obvious must-ban is custom characters, and there is also an argument re: button mapping with Hilde (since it allows her to do things that are impossible with the standard 4 buttons). That's really about it.

NorCal's numerous, and currently growing SC scene will support EVO.

not to represent the whole state, but i'm pretty sure all of California's SC players would definitely be interested in showing up at this year's EVO if SCIV is included.

Yep, lotsa interest for this one. If it happens, I'm goin' for sure.

Norcal September Tourney: 27 Players
Norcal November Tourney: 24 Players
Norcal December Tourney: 22 Players

The Cali regionals that happened recently in Simi Valley had 47 entrants. The biggest tournament so far was Sb3 which had over 100 people if I remember correctly. Evo could easily have more than that though.

For what it's worth, some French players are interested in attending should SC4 be at Evo. I mentioned the possibility of this to Malek (French player I met awhile back) soon after SC4's release. He mentioned a couple weeks ago that he's gotten players motivated to attend, but they're waiting for solid information.

France took the Evo title in 2003, but we won the Cannes world tournament against them. Evo2k9 would be the perfect place to break the tie.

SB3 CLAIMED to have over 100 people... because they made the brackets a week in advance, and TONS of people didn't show up. I was there, and I would estimate the number of people to have been between 60 and 80. The crowd was WAY smaller than the crowd at NEC9, which only had 86 people. SB3 was a shit run event, and everyone knows it by now.

Hype! Hype!

EDIT: Forgot to mention we held a tournament shortly after release and had 41 players.

Lately, schedules have been whack and people haven't been able to make it to the smaller local ones but we can pull a 15-20 person bracket fairly easily. I'll round up dates/exact numbers tomorrow.

I am interested in this World Tournament thingy...you talking about Link...when we doing that again?

I haven't been part of a tourney myself but I can vouch for everyone posting in this thread. SC4 is way too popular for Evo to ignore. I dare say it'd be missing out on a lot. As famous as Evo is it can only help the game we love. MANY people will come for it. I guarantee.

i hope that includes Aris, although he'll prob be there for SFIV. Evo isnt Evo w/o Aris.

i know i, and prob the rest of MA, wont be attending Evo if theres no sc4, not that anyone cares lol.

sc hasn't had a following like this since sc2, which is really exciting.

evo would be missing out if they didn't include sc4.

just my .02.

allow all characters for evo?

all meaning - no banned character. none. zip. nada. all good. todo. whole enchilada. etc...
