I am struggling.

To keep this story as short as possible...

I have become good (so I've been told) with Mitsurugi. At this moment, I know every one of his moves, combos, and can use almost any of them in one way or another in mid-fight. I still need to work a bit on his punishment data and a few minor details. Where I lack the most right now is general defense. I am still a sucker for some low attacks.

Lately, I am getting tired of relying on Mitsurugi for my battles. I want to branch out and learn other characters now. Playing Mitsurugi is no longer stimulating to me, and I am beating most of the good players I used to struggle with before.

Now to where I am struggling. I am so used to Mitsurugi, it is difficult for me to adapt to playing other styles. I figured I would start with the easiest (complexity) characters first to make the process easier.

The bad thing is, I am doing rather terrible and I really am not sure where I am going wrong or how to fix it. I always think to myself, 'if I were Mitsurugi, I would do that to counter it.'

My friend said I am gifted with Mitsurugi and I should just stick with him. But I want to move on to other characters now. Playing Mitsurugi is getting monotonous.

As for what I have in my arsenal, I am equipped with a FuturePress strategy guide, I go over the basics constantly to refresh myself and I suppose I should also check around the website for threads based on the characters I am trying to learn.

Keep playing with him. Know the match ups. You might think you know Mitsu, but you can always improve. Get people from 8way to play. Add me on whatever console. I won't be able to get on for about a week tho.

YOUR FRIEND SUCKS. MEET UP WITH SOMEONE WHO IS A CERTIFIED GOOD OFFLINE PLAYER. IF THEY ARE NOT LICENSED WITH AN OFFICIAL 8WAYRUN STAMP OF APPROVAL, THEY ARE NOT GOOD. UNTIL YOU HAVE RECEIVED YOUR OWN I-AM-A-LEGITIMATELY-AWESOME-OFFLINE-PLAYER LICENSE, YOUR MITSURUGI IS AWFUL.

learning a new character can be an extremely daunting process, I took up Aeon several months ago, and Hilde several weeks ago...and Patroklos several days ago (at least planning to)
For each match I play with Aeon or Hilde and lose, I, just like you, think to myself "Nightmare would've obliterated that matchup"
however this comes part and parcel with taking up a new character, you're not going to get good with them over night. you essentially have to understand all new tactics, all new frames, all new buttons and all new matchups and an entirely new playstyle, all new things to get used to, you have to start from the bottom and work your way up...

While you may know the matchup from Mitsu's point of view, you won't know it from another characters point of view, you can't play your new character as if you were playing mitsu...what frames mitsu is able to punish your new character may NOT be able to, what mixups Mitsu couldn't deal with your new character may have just the answer for.
All little things like these you must take into account when taking up a new character.

Sometimes you get burned out on a character and need a change. If your frustration really is coming from being able to dominate people who once gave you trouble, however, you might rediscover your fun by radically stepping up your level of competition.

I'm always down to fight new people if I'm online.

Ok. I'll hit you up.

I don't really live in an area with any decent Soulcalibur players. I'm tempted to hit up craigslist in search of any players in my area, but I would assume that if anyone was interested, I would be teaching them how to play the game at best. I did play with some friends in college but I was beating them before I even knew what I was doing.

I have taken on tournament-level players before, and it usually ends up with me losing to them with their health bar in the yellow. I am not the best, I know there is room for improvement.

i have fidgeted around with Patroklos before. A couple things I have figured out is his 66A and 66B are completely safe (to my knowledge) when blocked. His 66A is very difficult to step but it can be done. Also use A+B when being pressured, which also works well after 66A. 1K and 3B is a great mix-up combo. Strike the fear of 1K in their hearts.

That's what I have gathered so far. There's a lot more to him.

FREQUENTLY PLAYING A VARIETY OF PLAYERS WITH A RANGE OF DIFFERENT SKILL LEVELS CAN HELP YOU IMPROVE, BUT FOCUSING ON THE BEST PLAYERS IS KEY. HATES OFFERED TO PLAY YOU ONLINE. HE'S GOT A LICENSE.

IF YOU'RE ON PSN ADD MONEYMUFFINS.

Ok. I will add you guys to play soon. Either our fights will be close or you'll both annihilate me.

yh things like 66B, 1K and throws seem to be way forward

Long story short, played with Moneymuffins tonight and got annihilated. 10-zip. I got close one time due to ring outs.

I have a lot of replay data to go through, so thank you for that. But I was analyzing the fight as I went on and I really don't know where I went wrong. I whiffed a lot on the first set, he was spacing me, he whiff punished me, I got more careful, and some of my best mix-ups were useless against him. My moves to catch back-step were too slow and were blocked or dodged.

I have recently come into the realization that I have a LOOOOOOOOOOONG way to go before being a top player. Tonight that very real and cruel truth has presented itself yet again.

One of the things that I had trouble with is losing, and while I got frustrated during our matches, it was mostly at myself for not being as good as I had hoped. So I believe I am finally over that obstacle.

Now it am thinking to myself, where do I go? What do I do? I have never been so unsure of myself as I am tonight.

Regardless, good matches, moneymuffins. I just wish I could have provided a better challenge for you.

TALK TO THE GUYS IN THERE, THEY WILL FIND A WAY TO HELP YOU MEET UP AND PLAY AND KEEP YOU IMPROVING.

AS FOR OUR FIGHTS, I'M SURE YOU NOTICED YOU WERE DOING A LOT OF YOUR OWN MOVES ON AUTO-PILOT AND I WAS HURTING YOU FOR IT. MUCH OF MY GAME IS BASED AROUND TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PEOPLE'S HABITS, SO IT'S NOT UNCOMMON FOR PEOPLE TO HAVE THIS ISSUE. GRADUALLY, YOU WILL LEARN TO BECOME MORE CONSCIOUS OF EACH HABIT YOU HAVE, AND BY BEING MORE CONSCIOUS OF IT, YOU WILL BE ABLE TO CONTROL YOURSELF BETTER.

OR MAYBE YOU ARE ALREADY AWARE OF YOUR MISTAKES, BUT SIMPLY DON'T HAVE THE MUSCLE MEMORY TO STOP YOURSELF FROM DOING IT YET. EVERYTHING REQUIRES TRAINING. THINKING IS ONE THING, EXECUTION IS ANOTHER. BOTH ARE EQUALLY IMPORTANT. IN A LOT OF CASES I THINK TOO MUCH AND EXECUTE TOO LITTLE, BUT FOR OTHER PEOPLE THEY THINK TOO LITTLE AND EXECUTE TOO MUCH. BEING TOO IMBALANCED WILL HURT ANYONE EITHER WAY.

I think it may have been a bit of both. I understood I was on auto-pilot, but there was no on/off switch. Haha.

Thanks for linking the post. I will check it out now.

JTK, you're in norcal? We should probably have a kickass connection. Want another head-mashing?
Can't wait! More losses are better for me anyway. I need to dull the edge of losing. I have already taken the liberty of adding you on PSN.

Took Hates on. 11-zip.

I was still on auto-pilot most of the time which was punished accordingly. A lot of moves that I believed were safe are not. When I became aware of my auto-pilot, I started getting creative towards the end, which helped a lot.

I feel privileged to have battled both of you tonight. Thank you so much guys.

You should check up my guide on how to be good with patroklos. It's in one of my recent postings.

Also I remember the first time I played money muffins and lost 20-2.

He made me conscious of my mistakes and I beat him 10-9 after and that was one of the most satisfying feeling ever. (Considering how imba the NM vs. Pyrrha MU is)

Also @ZER0, I'm honoured to have inspired you to pick up patroklos. May the knees of justice be with you.

Also I'm just gonna leave this here but the key to beating a solid Pyrrha is by grabbing and playing with simplicity. Pyrrhas oki, punishing , mixups and spacing will always be better than you.

You have to first determine how to approach the grab (running up to them vs. grabbing after you blocked their attack for example) and based on that, you can be able to instill fear by making them purposely duck and punish.
