Not true. I've put up something a bit similar. Not quite as in-depth as this, but useful nonetheless in helping players build a good mindset for approaching the game.

Well, this info is definitely helpful.
I've always been a Xianghua fan and played online for the first time last night.
I think I won 1 round out of 3, 3-round matches and decided I needed to approach things differently.
I didn't just get completely owned (I took 50-95% of the opponent's health in match) but i need a lot of work. This has helped me to conceptualize some things I should work on, namely in the way of defense.

Excellent read, Kowtow... you're most definitely right about player tendencies. Often times as an inexperienced player I can cycle through the same 8 moves religiously that I find work well against others, then run into a more experienced player like a deer caught in headlights and he hands it to me. Of course, I'm upset and wondering what I did wrong even tho I didn't focus at all. XD Its really a waste of time to play casuals this way consistently, because you end up taking absolutely no data or no info at all from your matches. Didn't really realize it till I read this tho, lol. Kudos...

Welcome to the forums. http://www.8wayrun.com/f6/newbie-silencer-t76/ pretty much explains everything as far as jargon goes.

Oh, and reading stickies will generally take you a long way ^_^.

Hey Kowtow,

If you don't mind, I have taken your guide and fully translated it into Spanish.
Don't worry, I'm not taking credit for it ;) I'm planning to distribute it around some new players and folks of mine.

Amazing read btw!

Hey I got your PM man, good luck with your scene in Brazil. Just remember to reinforce the idea about community alongside competition. I think Chach wrote a guide about starting communities actually, I'll see if I can find it for you. It might be more geared towards US areas though.

Not exactly Brazil bro... it's Costa Rica. ;)
And yeah, if you can provide any other material it would be of great aid.

Kudos!

New guy over here :). I played SC2 but just super super casual with my friend a while ago, no combos or like taking it seriously. I bought SC4 and I've been liking it so far. I came on these forums because I want to get more into it I guess, a little more competitive is what I mean. So I've read all of the stickies and everything and I have a question:

I can't really decide on a main, I've gone through points where I thought Zas was my main, Setsuka, etc. I'm wondering is there one character that is good to learn the game on to start with? Or is it more like find the character you like the best, and slowly learn his/her moveset and how to play with that character?

Thanks in advance, I posted here because I didn't know where else to post it and I didn't want to start a new thread for this.

I had a lot of trouble with deciding a main too...(secondary character is worse) Just play around with a few characters and use the one you like best. It's not going to be as fun for you if you are sitting there trying to main a character that you don't like or someone else told you to pick. Be your own man, pick the coolest character (In your opinion) and learn them. There is so much information in each character's soul arena. Look for top ten move lists, a few combos, and start from there. Welcome to 8way!

This was a great read. Only wish i could get my friends to realize the statements quoted above.
On the rare occasion that they actualy do beat me they go "caveman" and beat their chests as a sign of victory wheras i dont give a shit wether i win or lose i play to have fun. (i stopped playing my friends and now play online only, had sumthin to do with them beeing sick of getting their ass handed to them *evil grin*)

And as for picking a main i suggest u try out a few (or a lot) of chars pick the style u like and make a CaS that Fits your taste :) thats wat i did anyways gotta love CaS system *hugs his female siegfried style cas*

I just read this, copied and pasted it onto a word document, and will etch it on the tablet of my heart. That may be a bit dramatic (albeit true) but it is priceless information. I know Holy Force will come in here and say that I am ass kissing, so I might as well tell you here what I meant to send you in a pm a week or so ago. I've seen you here and on XBL forums. You have been the best ambassador for this game and this site that I have seen. You invite others to come here (myself included) and are continually sharing your information and sound opinions with anybody who asks and is willing to listen. Hats off to you for caring about the community as a whole. Hats off to you for not stooping to the level of poo flinging that happens a bit too much among people playing this game. One final "hats off" to you for being skilled and never acting cocky nor arrogant. I owe you a beer or 6, or whatever drink it is you drink. Let me know if you ever get to Chicago.
