ok first of all, as a 7_8_9B spammer myself
(In fact I'm pretty sure I was one of the first to realize how stupidly broken that move is)
You need to use it more. It is a good tool against bullrush.
Since a blocked bullrush will leave you outside of SW state's range, a well time 9B will always net and counter
9B is also faster than bullrush in starting up frame. In fact, I saw you net a counter hit a bullrush in the very last round of the last match.

That astaroth really was just a freaking noob spammer. Kinda pissed me off he got away with using nothing but 6K, 66K, 66[K]. I mean, comon, seriously?
The only reason why you lost so much is because you didn't know how to properly punish bullrush spam.
Davo: Now, what did I tell you people would say about my Asta? I'm not going to bother addressing him in the Ivy forum, because I'm sure he won't listen, but...

1. 9B may well net a counter hit if I 66K into 66K... but what if I just block? Or what if I step into 22_88B? In case of the former case I get enough frame advantage for a throw mix up, which I'm more than happy to take. In the latter case I can probably launch you.

2. What exactly does he propose my bull rush aggression with? Bull rush is safe so it's not like you can do that and while you can step it, if I'm patient and wait for you to move then I can make that tricky. Besides, the whole point of bull rush was to try and get you to block standing so that I could command grab you and it worked for the most part. Is he seriously suggesting that step is a solution to the command grab/bull rush mix up, because if I notice you stepping I will just command grab more or throw out 4A, which is very dangerous on a stage that small. I also hope that he isn't thinking of WP... because WP just invites step 22_88B.

3. He thinks I spam 6K? LOL. I think the ratio of CH's to NH's speaks for itself. If I'm getting CH 6K why on earth should I stop, especially when you can't really slaughter me on block. Ivy can't punish it anywhere near as hard as Sophie or Cass can.

I think we've talked about this before, but Asta is all mind games. Unfortunately, mind games don't exactly come across well on video.

Heh.

Am I psychic or what? I predicted exactly this response well before we ever put these videos up.

lol. wats the oztaku table? speaking of which, i wonder if luco would come back to syd just for smash.

LG, LOL u just got called a noob, well if u missed ur grabs at the end.
Ur right about the mixup reward, but I guess he is telling me to pull it out once in a while. If i were to go into WP, I should spam WP 3A more over WP's other linear pokes to stop 22_88B as it also kills 6K from a distance. The problem with WP in general is its recovery for any whiff = 22_88B. I should test if 7/8/9B if its safer on whiff against 22_88B. The other thing about 7/8/9B is if I get interupted, Im on the ground just below Asta, tho still... I should try this against you to see how it really goes instead of discussing on paper.

LG the results are in! You are a scrub who somehow managed to get to the GF in a tourney. Dunno how you did it sneaky mofo! I notice you had alot of sucsess with 6k ch especially in the first fight. Also i noticed you used alot of A grabs and not many B grabs and that most werent command throws. Good match between you 2 overall and you have Oct to get revenge.

Bailey I would have thought you could forge his ID somehow? Frankly I think Lco is making a mistake trusting you with anything :P.

Barging into this thread again :P I have already stated my opinion on the matches in Ivy SA but this:

You're wrong. The reason why 9B is so good against Astaroth (and not only him), it's because this move is not as linear as it seems. It has tracking properties to both sides and thus, due to Asta's step and hitbox, it's very difficult to step it with Astaroth. He also can't punish it at tip range. He does get throw mixup but only when the move is used at point blank range (where it shouldn't)

Of course, this move does have weaknesses (frames on hit/block, 7B and 8B don't track like 9B and it's easier to step those moves) but it can be abused vs characters that can't do much about it.

Ring: Don't worry about barging in, we Sydney guys do it to the Melbourne thread all the time. I guess this is something that we disagree on. For me the whole point of bull rush is to convince people that it is a good idea to block standing, because Asta's lows aren't anywhere near as dangerous as his throws. Once the opponent starts stepping bull rush - not something that you saw in the GF, but Davo and I played a fair number of matches the day before and he was stepping it - that's when things become really interesting. At that point I can look at my other options 33_99K, 4A etc. and command grab if I'm close enough. Or I can simply work my way in, stepping and guarding appropriately, and look for a chance to chip with something like 2A or bull rush or command grab. This is aided by the fact that while WP has great range, a lot of its longer range moves are steppable and will eat 22_88B if I time things right. Really, my main concern from a spacing perspective is WP 3A because that is not so easily avoided. But then, if I block it I get enough frames to close the gap. I can't punish it at tip, but I can use those frames to get closer, which is what I want.

With regards to the post blocked 66K situation. I can understand why you recommend 9B, but at the same time, I'm reasonably confident in my ability to step it, even though it is tricky. Even if I can't punish it on block at tip, I can use those frames to get closer, which is all I'm really after anyway, because so long as I'm in command grab range, I've got a strong mix up. Besides, and this is something I have to test just to be sure, are you really at tip range if you use 9B after blocking 66K?

Finally, about all the 66K and 6K spamming. I urge you to watch the WF and how many of those 6K were CH. If it is working, I really don't see a reason to stop doing it. It'd be like telling Mitsu to stop using 2KB when the opponent isn't blocking it. It's not up to me to stop using 6K and 66K, it's up to my opponent to make me stop using them.

Whilst I can't really comment too much on the character match up, I will comment on the player match up.
Davo. Is. BULLSHIT!
No seriously, in all my time playing with the Sydney crew, I'd have to say Davo is the most bullshit player I've ever come across. As to why? GOD DAMN RED BUTTON. I think he's the only guy I've come across that has JI'd a random 1K. Then you've got throw break hax. This is what'll happen at a ring edge with the B throw being RO. A, A, A, B, A, B, A, A, B, A and EVERY GOD DAMN ONE GETS BROKEN?!
LG on the other hand, is a Psych major. He's really good at mind games. I think I asked him why he broke an A throw. His response? "Oh I thought you thought I knew you were gonna try for a B and would instead try an A throw."

What does this have to do with Ivy vs Asta? Absolutely nothing. But I thought I'd get it out there that Davo is bullshit and that LG is hax.

Edit: On an unrelated note, BB arrived today.

Well, WP isn't a good stance for close combat, so expect that by the time you get close, Ivy will be in CL or SW. But she does a couple of pretty fast step killers in WP apart of 3A like : WSA, 2A, 4A or 6A. Especially I find her 2A to be decent against bullrush spam. Also her 22_88A is pretty good. It's slow but it covers half screen range and it's +11 on close hit + leaves opp in BT. By the way, some of Astaroth's move have weird whiffing issues. For example, his 33K almost NEVER hits Ivy at any range I think, or his 44A will whiff at point blank range if Ivy is blocking. Weird stuff :P

66K leaves me at different ranges after I block it, so it depends. But when you do 66K at close range and after I block it, I do 9b (she also jumps forward) then I end up at point blank range :P so 8B is a better choice (it pushes back the opponent too)

I never said that you should stop using it, if it's working :P I understand what you mean. I was just pointing out, that Davo could use your love for 6K to his advantage. Since Ivy can punish it for 35dmg. And those CH 6K were also his fault. Like, I recall a situation in WF where you blocked his SW WSA and he tried 2A after that (and got 6Ked on CH) You still need to watch out when she is in SW, because her 6b9k is one of the best punishers in the game (speed/range/damage wise)

As much as id like to say your being ridiculous in my experience with these 2 your totally right. Seriously wtf!? Davo JId a half charged SCH b and when i asked him how he knew he said 'instinct' and he grab broke me 80% of the time having even played me before. You forgot to mention how much e pokes which i dont find very fun but neverthe less he is one freakish player that even someone like Dreamkiller or KDZ would have to aknowledge.

since it sounds like its going to be just me and matt for the majority of sunday till others rock up, matt what time do you recon you will rock up, just so if its earlier i know to get up earlier lol. do you need my number and address cause i dont think u have been there before?

on a related note to the discussion at hand, 6k is uber.

on an unrelated note, i went to go pick up sophie... i lasted 20 minutes before i decided i didnt like her at all and some of her combos are so unco that they just look lame, like the enders just dont look like enders. she uses that lame crouch stabby move after launching someone, or uses her ass to ring them out... i couldnt get over the lameness. she doesnt have nearly as much style as asta. ill stick to my main.
