Default Questions

Hi, I have a few questions. I'm planning on buying SC4 but I don't know if I should. There is really no community near me so I can only play online. I've heard some really negative things about SC4s online play. So really my only competition is online, should I get SC4 if my only competition is only online. Even if I do is there a lot of players online? Will I get a wide variety of players or are there very few players. (I have a 360)

Thanks guys.

It's a valid concern. Try to make a pact with friends locally so that you'll all agree to play the game and buy it together. You can learn at the same level this way.

get the game regardless of a local scene. online play is better than no play at all and its not that bad if you find a couple ppl from this site to play against.

If you can play offline id say that's the best way too go. But if you can't you can still enjoy the game not too it's fullest but you can find good players too help you improve. Some of them are better than the offline players just that they have responsbilities and can't do offline much.

IMO online is something that shouldn't be taken competitively because winning or losing means NOTHING as lag always hinder your true offline abilities. However, online is something I see taken as a secondary learning tool.

If you want to use online as means of offline skill development, then hook up with the good online players here in 8WR who also have good offline tourney experience. OOFMATIC and Enkindu come to mind; I'm not sure if Something_Unique and Woahhzz have Xbox live. After you play them ask them for feedback.

If all you care is winning online, then spam whatever lag tactic you want; I can't give any further advice than that since I'm not that into online.

Well I'm not planning on talking online competitively, I was asking because there is hardly a scene where I live, no one here even plays fighting games. So all I really have is online and sometimes offline if I travel.

Thanks for the answers.

The online play can be a little frustrating with the input delay. Just link up with the xbox players here if you want the better matches online. Also, offline or online doesn't really matter with this game. Online's lag makes it unsuitable for being a truly competitive environment, even though you'll still get some really good matches and competition. Offline isn't all that great either, because the scene is so small and you won't make any money even if you do win.

Basically, just get the game if you like the Soul series.

How would you know if they haven't shown up for tournies? They simply don't have anything to prove other than just being good online players.

Unlike Something_Unique and Woahhzz, they actually proven themselves to be both good online and offline players. If they only play online, I wouldn't know how extremely well they would do offline unless they've actually prove it in offline tournaments.

Finally, I hope you're not implying that offline players don't have responsibilities because there are those that do.

Who cares about money that doesn't mean he shouldn't play offline competitively. Playing competitively just demonstrates the competitive spirit in keeping the game alive. You play and stand by your game. Like someone else said, he can try and build a community if possible.

There are too many idiots sticking up for internet SCIV who haven't played the best players in real life. They don't know the difference and shouldn't be posting.

yeah i agree that offline pro's will run circles around good online players. Their spectrum is a lot larger wit the exposure too tourneys and meeting different players.

It's a big difference between the superior offline players and the ok ones.
Online/Offline is like night & day.

Yeah but an lot of them don't if you wanna lead that life do ya thing a lot of gamers such as myself loves living a lavish lifestyle and still find time too fight strong comp.

I'll take offline anytime over online but i also know what's going too be more important when your looking at life 5 to 10 years from now. :D

Offline/Online is debatable but it's more about the players than anything. Ex. Someone like Nori i was able too dominate in FT10.
But i struggled wit S_U that's the difference i'm talking about between the offline pro's and the so so one's.

How can you tell that a lot of these good offline players in here don't have responsibilities if you don't really hang with the group or get to know them any better. Nori for instance the guy has a wife, Rigel goes to school and learns about graphics, KDZ works in Verizon, RTD works in software engineering and Something_Unique has some sort of well-paying job. I even have local offline competitors that have jobs and one that is married.

Well that's just you as it depends on certain individuals. Playing any competitive game competitively shares a part of their life and itz not necessarily a life to rid off. Also look at the ppl around here, there are even ppl in their 30's still playing Soul Calibur or any other competitive game for that matter. I agree that life involves sacrifices but that doesn't mean they have to abstain from something they love doing for the rest of their life.

I'm not clear on this... are you implying that just because you beat Nori in a FT10 you can beat him in a FT10 offline?

Also Something_Unique is very good in handling online but that alone is not the reason why I say he's a good offline player. He's also a good offline player because he does well in offline tournaments and he's proven that.

What Something_Unique and Nori have in common is that they know how to deal with offline. The difference is that Something_Unique knows how to deal with online better than Nori.

Just not SC players worldwide gamers is what i'm talking about those who play T6,MW2, SF4 and any other game fo a living where it can take away from your real life success.

It's people out here who play SC like me who have careers and can balance the two and it's those who can't. Because they have people who depend on them they have an women or kids who they have too be around for.

And the answer too your last question is yes i'll put bank on that.

Online and offline is good fun and competition.
But whatever floats your boat.
Depending on the situation.

But how can you tell that they can play better than the offline players who go out and compete in offline tournies? What makes you more than certain that they can play any better than those players who put a lot of dedication and effort to travel and meet all these players with different play styles?

All I'm saying is that ppl who put a lot of dedication and travel to compete whether they know how to balance with other things in life or not has gone through a lot compare to an online gamer who only plays online and a player who mainly plays with his friends in one area.

Then the only thing I can say is that your observation is very limited because you're only basing it online leading to assumptions that could be false offline.

Great offline players will handle online players at will but it's some of the offline who are less skilled than some of the online players. I agree it's better too play offline but you can also find ppl who are just as skilled as some of the offline players.

I've played a couple of them and left shaking my head at a few expecting better. I know you put your whole stake in offline and that's how the game should be played i agree but just because someone plays offline doesn't mean their good.

I don't think itz that easy. Question is how would you base this on? What aspects do you look at the online player that makes you certain that this online player is better than or just as good as some of the offline players.

If you're basing on the numbers of wins as a justification then that's not a good way to look at it. Besides with a lot of drama about ppl using lag tactics and such the only resolve is offline where no one can complain about it.

Well consider the fact that ppl's minds may still be based on offline they haven't fully adapt to online. Some aspects offline can't be done online and some ppl's mindgames are based on that. Some ppl have to play different because itz online and maybe their play style offline is better than their play style online.

Yes if they only play with only their friends the only exception if his/her friends are looking for ways to improve then there's potential.

I think you guys are giving him too much info.

Just take it a step at a time. If you like the game, but it. If you play online, don't take it too seriously, stick to 4-5 bar connections, challenge people here, and have fun.

If you get to the point where you want to transition into offline, start by putting in your location here on the forum because there's sure to be someone who is near you that plays Calibur. Also try to introduce the game to some friends and try to meet people at a tournament. But it starts at one person putting in the initial effort if you want to get a scene going.
